Midwest Handmade was born as a way to support small business, handmade makers. As makers ourselves, we know how hard and expensive it can be to get your name out there. Especially in handmade markets that can be over saturated online.
Our Facebook page is all about showcasing new artists, and pieces you didn't realize existed but now might purchase because they're just so amazing.
It’s about giving inspiration and hope to our makers. Even if you can’t afford their art right now, we hope that you will give them a share, or give their shop a like.
Show the love; support someone's dream.
We specifically feature makers from the states of: ND, SD, MN, WI, MI, OH, IN, IL IA, MO, KS, and NE.
Christy is Midwest Handmade's Founder and Curator. Christy has been a jewelry artisan for her shop Anja's Arts since 2009. She has also been a member of the esteemed The Artisan Group since 2012. As a member of the group Christy has had her jewelry placed on 4 TV shows: The Vampire Diaries, Finding Carter, Law and Order:SVU, Fuller House, and the new Charmed reboot. As well as participating in many gifting suites to press and celebrities; Christy's rings were featured in DaySpa magazine, her earrings worn on the red carpet at the Lady Gunn event by actress Courtney Palm, and Actress Stephanie Drapeau has given her multiple photo twitter shout outs wearing her pieces.
As a handmade artisan Christy knows the value of handmade. She participates in many art and craft shows throughout the summer months and knows the importance of what the artisans and shoppers need for a successful show. She has been an advocate of buying handmade, and shopping small businesses. She also co hosted the Annandale Art Crawl in her hometown for 3 years.
She started Midwest Handmade in March 2018 simply to promote handmade artisans on a larger scale- because she truly enjoys doing it. It quickly began growing, and many of the artisans asked her to host shows. Now, she will be hosting throughout the Midwest states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio.
She aims to keep all shows large, indoor events, that are affordable and supportive for the artists, but extremely well promoted with large attendance numbers.
Christy is a mom of 3, wife to Ryan, a fur mom to 4 cats, 2 dogs, and a few fish. She is a Minnesota native and enjoys sharing all things handmade, spending time with her family, camping, and traveling.
Ryan is the tech manager, attendance tracker, and load in/out muscle during events for Midwest Handmade. He has a background in finance, business management, and advertising. He is currently the credit manager for Minvalco in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ryan enjoys gaming, working out, sports, building computers, and being with his family.
Pickles is also a maker. In fact she's the one who urged Christy to begin making. She has 14 years experience with shows and making. Pickles has a BA degree in business and 20 years experience in business, public relations, advertising, marketing and office management. She worked with one of the top 5 public relations firms in Minnesota.
She loves the outdoors, camping and traveling. She has attended art shows across the country. Pickle's assistance in all areas of the business is extremely appreciated.
You'll frequently find Pickles at art and craft festivals finding new artisans for us to feature.
